Rocket Man: “The Shat” vs Stewie

In 1978, William Shatner was the host and musical guest at the Science Fiction Movie Awards, where he bequeathed us a psueudo beatnik spoken word “Rocket Man”.  ”The Shat” even rolled his own “jazz cigarette” for the shoot.  Please note the 2:58 remaining mark where the 70’s video editing culminates in a superimposed 2nd Shat, doing the chorus.

Family Guy’s Stewie Griffin nails it 25 years later.

The Geico cavemen are getting their own sitcom pilot.

Proof of Spinal Tap’s adage that “there’s a fine line between clever and stupid”. In any event, I’ll probably enjoy the caveman commercials so much less now that they have become self aware. These commercials jumped the shark with the “caveman carrying a tennis bag on an airport people mover passes a fictional Geico billboard of a neanderthal with a club”… Ah the good ol’ days.

By the way, the song in the commercial is “Remind Me” by Swedish electronic duo Royskopp.
